There is nothing more Australian than Volunteering.

Community Resilience is in the hands of our Volunteers!

Our Initiatives

Give a Little. Change a Lot.

We work closely with community and partner with any community organisation that is willing to give a little to change a lot. We have listed here, some of our initiatives that highlight our responsiveness to community need and close ties to community.

IT Recycling, Training & Donation Program

IT Project

Our IT recycling program uses donations of used or faulty computers and refurbishes those computers donating them to people or community organisations that would otherwise not have access to these technologies. The work is done in our volunteer IT training room, where qualified IT professionals teach volunteers wanting to get into the industry.

This program has been running for over 10 years and has donated an average of 50 computers a year back into the community.

Art at the Park

AATP

AATP

This project was a response to an emerging community need and arose as there was a change in another local community organisations funding. We wanted to help. This became a partnership between local artists, art groups, Phenoix House in Bundaberg, Dave Read Auctioneer and the Bundaberg Rainbow Girls. It had two parts. We hosted an art exhibition for all the local artists and art groups in Bundaberg, asking in return that they donate a piece of art for an art auction later in the year. There was a gold coin donation box and we had all participants sign the banner we made for Pheonix House's night march. There was also an art battle between three of the regions up and coming artists. Two of these artists also donated their work for the auction. This exhibition was well recieved and there was a good response from the public.

The Annual Volunteers Picnic & Expos

AATP

Wide Bay Volunteers has been hosting Annual Volunteer Expos since 2001. The idea behind this initiative, is to provide a platform for community organisations to advertise their services and volunteer programs, as well as providing an information day for people wanting to volunteer to find the right organisation to assist them on their volunteering journey. At different times, these expos were held inside and outside, but the more effective celebration of volunteering effort is seen when we take the expo to the park. We started doing this in 2016-2017 and will continue to host the expo outside. In 2018, the ran almost got us, but a big thank you to all the organisations that stayed despite the rain!

AATP

Equity & Equality. Thats why we do this each year. Equity, Equality and being a Good Corporate Citizen by raising awareness of issues of inequality, in the pursuit of addressing them. The events that we have held are different each year. Since 2013, Wide Bay Volunteers has been partnering with local organisations to conduct events on International Womens Day in March, including the QJA, the Country Womens Association, the Wide Bay TAFE. In 2018 we partnered with the Bundaberg Regional Council and thank them for their continued support.

The Annual Volunteer Awards AVA

AVA
Volunteering effort provides community sector resilience, builds community capacity and individual capacity. Our communities would not survive without Volunteers.

Since our incorporation in 2001, we continue to host events that recognise volunteering effort in our region, by acknowleging and celebrating the effort of thousands of volunteers around the Wide Bay, Burnett and Fraser Coast. These events are in National Volunteer Week in May, and most years, we host four, sometimes five events in that one week. Every volunteer nominated, receives a certificate of thanks with their volunteering story on the back of the certificate - we want them to see their volunteer journey the way that the community sees them.... and values them. Although its often a very hard decidion, the most extraordinary volunteer is acknowledged as that years Annual Volunteer of the Year in that region.

Cubic Volunteering

Cubic

We aim for Best-Practice Volunteering and for us, that means that every volunteering journey has many facets like training, support, professional development, social inclusion, team building and assistance in achieving the volunteers goals. If we know a volunteers goals are, we help them achieve them. For example, if they want to gain skills in event management, we ask the volunteer to help with our events and help them make connections in the event space in town.

Cubic Volunteering is about investing in your volunteers, using volunteer teams to address emerging community issues and as a pathway to employment.
